This Christmas, come and skate in Royal Tunbridge Wells. Set in the natural amphitheatre of picturesque Calverley Grounds, the Royal Tunbridge Wells ice rink offers spectacular views of the park. Now in its fourth year, the outdoor real ice rink is a popular Christmas attraction in the centre of the town. The ice rink opens at 10am each day for a dedicated parent and toddler session, with main skating following every hour. Get an army “tattoo”, try your hand at spear practice and see if you can earn your keep as a new recruit during Roman Army Week. Sign up with the recruitment officer and learn to write your name in Latin before completing a range of tasks to “earn” a day’s pay. Halloween Horrors! - Woods Mill, Henfield

Saturnalia - Fishbourne Roman Palace

Saturnalia was one of the most popular holidays in Roman times, held in honor of the Roman god Saturn and festivities lasted for seven days. Many of the Saturnalia traditions of gift-giving, role-reversal and candle-lighting are reflected in traditional Christmas customs.
This fun event for the whole family will give you a chance to find out all about this Roman winter celebration. Between 11am and 3pm there will be lots of activities for visitors of all ages to try, including tasting feast day food and drink, making a beeswax candle to take home, dressing in Roman costume, writing a Saturnalia scroll, playing Roman games, creating some festive decorations and hearing a Saturnalia tale told by a Roman story-teller.
