Battle of Lewes 750 - Lewes Castle
3rd May - 18th May 11am - 4pm
A range of exciting events throughout May 2014 celebrating the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Lewes.
Organised by the local community, the events will include:
Costumed processions through the town, a family festival at Landport Bottom, site of the battle in May 1264 between the opposing armies of Simon de Montfort and King Henry III. A three-day camp for young people with debates, drama, music and a 3D projection. Medieval re-enactors and banners in the High Street. A drama following de Montfort’s night march from Fletching to Lewes. A medieval May Fayre Plus talks, exhibitions, displays and (of course!) fireworks.

Castle Siege May Bank Holiday - Arundel Castle

This three day event will show the importance of artillery in taking a castle and as a battlefield weapon. Skirmishes between the two sides, craft displays, costumes and armour of the period combine to make this an entertaining event for all the family. A large tented encampment sprawling across the upper grounds of the Castle boasts an armourer, the Distant Trumpets Story Teller and three prominent living history groups - Raven Tor Living History Group, The British Plate Armour Society and The Company of St. Barbara.
