CROSS COUNTRY

Sussex Cross Country League
The Sussex Cross Country League is a series of four races, organised by the county, which take place annually between October and February at different venues across Sussex. Within the league there are age and gender graded distances of up to five miles. In recent years a non-scoring Under 11 race has also been introduced to give athletes aged 9+ race opportunities. After the final league race individual medals are awarded to the first three teams and first three individual athletes in all categories, with their best three runs taken into account.

Sussex Cross Country Championships
The Sussex Cross Country Championships (sponsored by Brooks) takes place every January at a different venue in Sussex. There are races in all age groups from under 13 to senior and in recent years it has also incorporated a non-championship under 11 race. The first three athletes and teams in each age group receive medals.

Cross Country Relays
These championships take place in September or October annually, at various venues. This is a relay race where teams enter three runners (four in the senior men) who complete the distance before handing over to the next runner. Medals are awarded for first, second and third placed teams.

The Sussex Combined Events Championships takes place annually in September. Competition is open to all age groups from U13 to Master/Veterans.

Sussex AA organises five Track & Field Championships across the year. Between them, they cater for all age groups from Under 11’s to Veterans.

Sussex Under 13 Championships and U11 QuadKids takes place in June or July annually. The competition attracts the best talent from across Sussex to compete in a full range of track and field events for their age group.

The Youth Development League runs competitions for club teams at under 13, under 15 (the Lower Age Group) and under 17 and under 20 (the Upper Age Group). Both age groups have their own matches on different days, over four weekends across the summer months.

There are also a number of what are called Open Meetings which anybody can enter by paying an entry fee. These meetings are especially important at the beginning of the season.
